Paying Attention to My Body; 75 Hard Challenge Update
I have drastically changed how I eat in the last five weeks.
Until you seriously track what you eat, when, and how much, you truly have no idea what is going into your body. I thought taking mental notes was enough, but when I started this challenge, I quickly realized I was way off.
I have a daily calorie, protein, and carb goal, plus a specific diet to follow.
Using my FitBit app was the only way to track everything to make sure I was on top of it. Once I started logging my foods into the app, I saw how my educated guesses prior to this were way off. I was able to make better food choices and stay on the path to my goals.
I am creating a healthy mind and body connection from this venture.
Since I am so cognitively aware of what I am putting into my body in order to hit my calorie goal, I have noticed how the different foods have made me feel. I know the time of day that is best for my body to eat. I understand better how to fuel my body pre and post workouts. I have recognized eating smaller meals doesn’t actually leave me starving but more energized. I cut out certain foods that drag me or are high in calorie and not worth it.
On the days I try to test my theories, I feel awful after. There is such a drastic change in what my body is used to, that trying to eat like my old ways does not go over well. Honestly, I am grateful for that acknowledgment and reaction.
This way I know I will have the willpower to continue to stick with my diet goals, because I can see the progress in the mirror, and feel the drastic physical difference.
If you are looking for more mind-body awareness with eating,
I highly suggest logging your food. A writing log is a great way to take notes on what each meal does for you. However, I know it is not always convenient to carry a journal around, so finding a great app for you to track calories, proteins, and carbs is a good option too! Or simply use your notes app.
This is like the psychomotor activity I talked about, or how I highly encourage clients to keep a written schedule of their day. You are going to be more conscientious and present when it comes to making the right choices for your body.
